Description for B&B:
Situated amidst the enchanting Cathar region, between the medieval city of Carcassonne, the Canal du Midi, and the imposing Black Mountain, lies Montolieu Book Village. This idyllic destination is the perfect place to unwind and immerse oneself in the rich cultural offerings or to spend a few days exploring the picturesque surroundings. Nestled in the countryside, at the end of a serene road along the river in a scenic valley, stands The Forge of Montolieu. Once an old forge and mill, this late nineteenth-century mansion has been thoughtfully transformed into a remarkable accommodation. Surrounded by a lush park, adorned with ancient canals and hidden pathways, the estate offers a delightful variety of vegetation.Hosted by Charles and Laura Cowen, The Forge of Montolieu provides four generously-sized bedrooms, each boasting a unique connection to the house's industrial heritage and its "golden age". The two exceptionally spacious rooms, namely the Goddess and Madame Gazelle rooms, feature a double and single bed respectively, with views overlooking the river to the east, while the other two rooms, Ginko Biloba and Ourika's room, offer tranquil vistas of cascading waterfalls and majestic nature. The magnificent Mr. Wolf's bedroom, with its king-size bed, showcases the grandeur of the surrounding landscape, with a view that extends to one of Europe's oldest Douglas fir trees. These first-floor rooms are complemented by two large bathrooms, offering ample space and a soothing ambiance, all while providing a harmonious connection to the river.
Guests of The Forge of Montolieu enjoy their own dedicated space, ensuring privacy and comfort throughout their stay. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner can be arranged upon request, and are served in a spacious kitchen adorned with beautiful wrought iron accents. Alternatively, when the weather permits, meals can be savored outdoors, adding an element of natural beauty to the dining experience.
