Description for Gite

Welcome to the picturesque valley of Munster! Situated west of Colmar, in the southernmost part of the Vosgean solid mass, this valley is renowned for its cheese production and is undoubtedly one of the most delightful and captivating regions in the Vosges. With its high-altitude pastures, enchanting fir forests, and peaceful villages, the valley of Munster is an ideal destination for summer excursions and winter skiing.

The main town in the valley, Munster, will delight cheese enthusiasts as it is the birthplace of the delicious Munster cheese. As you venture further into the western part of the valley, you will discover more rugged and untamed landscapes. Charming villages with half-timbered houses, such as Mittlach, Metzeral, and Muhlbach, cling to the slopes and add to the valley's charm.

A must-do experience is indulging in the local specialty, the "marcaire" meal, at one of the rustic mountain inns perched on the mountainside. This hearty mountain feast pays homage to the famous Munster cheese. During the summer, be sure to savor the delightful bilberry tart, a highly appreciated dessert.

With the arrival of warmer weather, the valley offers numerous opportunities for exploration. The GR5 hiking trail, among others, partially passes through the valley, allowing for unforgettable adventures. In winter, the valley transforms into a haven for both downhill and cross-country skiing enthusiasts.

Come and immerse yourself in the beauty and charm of the valley of Munster. Whether you're seeking tranquility, outdoor activities, or a culinary delight, this enchanting region has something to offer everyone.
